Construction Week in Stamford

Stamford Construction Week

2019

In October 2019 South Lincolnshire Group Training Association (SLGTA) teamed up with New College Stamford, along with a wealth of local and regional employers from the construction industry, to offer local school pupils the opportunity to explore a variety of technical, professional and trade career opportunities available within the construction industry. After visiting for multiple years previously, Hollie and Harry from our design team were invited to return to deliver practical workshops in Strawbale Building and Reciprocal Framing over a two-day period. This coincides with our ‘Growing Up Green’ project, as part of the National Lottery funded Our Bright Future initiative, to inspire and educate young people about social and environmental sustainability tackling three main issues; a lack of social cohesion, a lack of opportunities for young people and vulnerability to climate change.

Lincolnshire Construction Week

In October 2019, Lincolnshire Showground worked alongside LGTA (Lincoln Group Training Association) in conjunction with CITB and Lincolnshire & Rutland EBP to hold a career taster event for Lincolnshire school children, to introduce them into the construction industry. For the three days, the Showground was converted into a workshop for over 16 different activities including; joinery, plastering, plumbing, building, painting and decorating. Hollie and Harry from our design team, Billy from our forestry team and our Construction Ranger Dave were all invited to the event to share their expertise in natural building, demonstrating workshops in Strawbale Building and Reciprocal Framing. Students from both Primary and Secondary schools attended, many of whom were considering taking up jobs in the construction industry and were able to quiz our experienced team in our diverse multifaceted roles.
