Salary : £18,976 per annum

Contract : Fixed Term Contract - 12 Months

Hours : 40 hours per week - Monday to Friday - 8.30-4.30pm

Holidays: 24 days holiday entitlement plus bank holidays

Overview

Hill Holt Wood is a nationally recognised and award-winning Environmental Social Enterprise. It currently employs 43 full and part time rangers and is engaged in a wide range of activities including the education of young people, extensive forestry operations, contracts with the local council, eco-construction, both design and build (Design: HHW), and events and hire, including the Hive Café. It has enjoyed considerable success over the last 19 years and continues to build on its strong position focusing on sustainability, environmentalism, conservation and social awareness.

Hill Holt Wood is seeking a carpenter/joiner to work alongside our construction ranger/site manager to progress our live project at Hill Holt Wood, the Artist Studio. This development consists of a log cabin, composting toilet block and a treehouse, all of which are designed using environmentally friendly materials and resources including hempcrete, timber and cork. The successful candidate will work alongside the construction ranger to complete work on this project each day and to ensure progression is made in line with project deadlines. Work will include internal finishing, furniture making and general site construction.

Essential Skills

  • Experience working with wood working machinery, power tools and hand tools.

  • Be able to interpret technical drawings and use this information to produce physical products and complete construction tasks.

  • Be able to manage a continual workload to achieve timely targets.

  • Have a keen eye for detail and good communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and work alongside the site manager.

  • Progress live construction projects alongside other members of a team.

  • Experience working in a workshop environment.

Desirable Skills

  • Previous carpentry/joinery experience including furniture making.

 

Full driving licence essential.
