With companies increasingly having to look at their social return on investment we feel that we can offer ways of measuring added value and provide proof of carbon offset. Indeed we feel that coming and having the ‘Hill Holt Wood Experience’ is a rare and unique opportunity to see sustainability in action.
Some of the activities available to Delegates include coppicing and thinning, these being traditional woodland management techniques that benefit both flora and fauna bio-diversity. We also demonstrate simple timber eco-building techniques using sustainable wood from our own managed estate – ideas include the design and construction of a sensory garden with simple wooden seating and making a bird hide and log feeder. These could form part of on-going projects that ultimately will represent the legacy of the groups involved.
More immediate activities include simple bridge-building over one of the ponds at the wood (great for teamwork), making a reciprocal roof from hazel poles (really good for team against team challenges) and the ever popular blindfold rope game where participants rely on the instructions of their team mates to avoid and navigate unseen obstacles.
Another possible workshop which could benefit those looking for independent, radical and self motivational development would be a tour and discussion about the “eco” log cabin house built by founder, Nigel Lowthrop, for his family. The only utility in the house is a phone line and electrical usage being less than 13 amps, this demonstrates the importance of principles and single-mindedness in the achievement of your goals.
We are well-placed to offer both a unique setting for events and courses and also can offer experienced and trained Rangers to facilitate workshops. We are well practised in taking people out of their comfort zone in an attempt to help them develop themselves; aiming to take them to a different level in an outdoor setting, promoting team building while lowering environmental impact.
Room Hire and Catering
The Cafe area and Round Hall, used for events and courses, are both beautiful and unique. The advantage of these two large areas is that they can be arranged to suit both Boardroom and Theatre type seating plans but can also be split up into more intimate group areas for team discussion. They are also both incredibly quiet due to the triple glazing but are just a door’s opening away from the natural environment. We can also offer the timber-clad building opposite the Round Hall as another break-out area, this can comfortably seat 12 people.
Refreshments are an important part of any away day and we pride ourselves on being able to cater for our guests to a very high standard. We can offer anything from canapes and pastries to more rustic, home-cooked organic food, we aim to cook what you would like rather than give you inflexible menu choices.
